Jim Jubak has been writing about the financial markets since 1984. He’s been picking stocks online since 1997 and has run a mutual fund since 2010. Way back in 1984 Mr. Jubak worked at Venture magazine, covering technology, the venture capital industry, and the financial markets. In 1992, after rising to editor, he left the magazine to write In the Image of the Brain, a look at how engineers were building neural network computers based on the workings of the human brain and how neuroscientists were using what that machine hardware told them to dive deeper into the human wetware. Writing a book being the highly lucrative endeavor that it is, Mr. Jubak soon had to get a real job, and for the next five years, he worked as senior financial editor at Worth magazine. At the magazine, he spent his summer vacations building horrendously complicated spreadsheets to rank US mutual funds. And, while working as senior financial editor, Mr. Jubak wrote The Worth Guide to Computerized Investing, the first how-to for the revolution that would eventually lead to Yahoo Finance, The Motley Fool, MSN Money, and TheStreet.com. In May of 1997, he joined MSN Money as senior markets editor and started Jubak’s Journal and Jubak’s Picks portfolio. Since its inception in May 1997 through the end of 2012, the 12-18 month Jubak’s Picks portfolio has returned 334% versus 125% for the S&P 500. In December 2008, Mr. Jubak published his third book, The Jubak Picks: 50 Stocks That Will Rebuild Your Wealth and Safeguard Your Future. The long-term Jubak Picks 50 portfolio that runs on JubakPicks.com is based on that book. In May 2009, Mr. Jubak left MSN Money to start his own Web site, JubakPicks.com, with daily market commentary, stock picks, and three stock portfolios (the third is a dividend income portfolio). In July 2010, he started a mutual fund, the Jubak Global Equity Fund (JUBAX).
