Speaker Biography:
John Dorfman founded Thunderstorm Capital LLC in 1999 and is an investment management company based in Boston. Before founding Thunderstorm, he worked for Dreman Value Management, first as senior vice president and then as a managing director. Mr. Dorfman writes a weekly stock market column that can be seen on Bloomberg news and at www.bloomberg.com. Over the years, the column has also appeared in various newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times, International Herald Tribune, Pittsburgh Tribune Review, the Rocky Mountain News, and the Palm Beach Post. In 11 years as a senior special writer at The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Dorfman wrote articles for the "Money and Investing" section, including "Heard on the Street" columns. He introduced features that systematically analyzed Wall Street research. Among these were the annual All-Star Analysts Survey and quarterly rankings of the performance of brokerage-house recommended lists and asset allocation. Mr. Dorfman was also the writer who launched the Investment Dartboard contest and the inside trading feature called Inside Track. He also served as a writer for Forbes and an executive editor of Consumer Reports. Mr. Dorfman has written nine books, including Family Investment Guide (Atheneum, 1981) and The Stock Market Directory (Doubleday, 1982).
