Never have so many borrowed and then spent so much money belonging to future generations. And then borrowed some more to fix the crisis created by their borrowing in the first place. And then expected to borrow yet more to pay for their golden years. The mess the current generation has created is unprecedented in US history. There's every chance that the next generation--the children of everyone hearing this keynote--will be the first in US history to not be better off than their parents. And I don't think we stand a snowball's chance of solving the problem. We can, however, mitigate the damage. Just because we can't come up with a fix doesn't mean we should do nothing. There is, after all, a tremendous difference between hitting a brick wall at 100 miles an hour without seat belts and hitting the wall at 20 miles per hour in a car with airbags. No one survives the first accident. In the second, the survivors might actually walk away. I've got a list of five things we can do so many in the next generation can walk away from this car wreck. And a list of what companies and industries will profit the most from those fixes.
