Speaker Biography:
Stephen McDowell is the editor-in-chief of Interactive Investor, the UK's number one portal for private investors. He knew there was nothing for it but to become a journalist when his headmaster informed him he did not know the difference between right and wrong and expelled him from school. Beginning in the regional press at the age of 20, Mr. McDowell has been a crime reporter, writer, and foreign correspondent, working in places as diverse as Monte Carlo, Israel, and Iraq and winning praise for his work in the Bosnia conflict of 1992. Since the mid-1990s, he has worked as a writer and editor in the financial press in London. Under Mr. McDowell's editorship, Money Marketing was the ABI newspaper of the year in 1999, and he was voted by his peers the News Media Journalist of the Year in 2003 while editor of www.thisismoney.co.uk. He has written for national newspapers and Web sites and was a columnist for the Financial Mail on Sunday and currently occupies the back page of the City of London's Square Mile magazine. Mr. McDowell was a lecturer in business and finance journalism at City University, and in November 2007, he launched iBall--a satirical financial Internet-based TV station.
