Stockholm Pre-Cruise Special Excursion

Wednesday, June 1 - Thursday, June 2

Radisson BLU Strand HotelUpon arriving in Stockholm, you will be met at the Arlanda airport and transported to the luxurious Radisson BLU Strand Hotel, where you can relax and recover from your journey.

Welcome Reception
In the early evening, join the Hillsdale College group for an informal cocktail reception. Following the reception, enjoy dinner and the rest of the evening on your own.


Uppsala Domkyrka

Uppsala Cathedral After breakfast, board your motor coach for a leisurely drive outside of Stockholm to the university town of Uppsala. Sweden's most celebrated Gothic building, the Uppsala Cathedral is the largest church building in Scandinavia and has remained the coronation site for Sweden's royal family for three centuries. Construction of the cathedral began in 1287 and would take more than a century to complete.

Linnaeus Garden

Linnaeus Garden & Museum

Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778), known as the "Father of Taxonomy," invented a system for classifying plants that remains in wide use today. What is now known as the Linnaeus Garden was originally established in 1655 by Olof Rudbeck the Elder. Laid out in the French style, it was later restored following Linnaeus' and Carl Harleman's design from 1745. Approximately 1,300 species are grown here, all known to have been cultivated by Linnaeus and arranged according to his own system. We will also visit Linnaeus' former home, which now houses the Linnaeus Museum.

Lunch in Uppsala

Domtrappkallaren Following the morning tour, we will stop for lunch on the terrace at Domtrappkallaren. After lunch, board your motor coach for the short ride to Stockholm and embarkation on board the Crystal Serenity.

Moscow Special Tour

Tuesday, June 7

Sapsan Train Your journey begins with an early morning departure from the Crystal Serenity. Transfer to the St. Petersburg train station accompanied by a local English speaking guide, where you will board a Sapsan high-speed train for the approximately four-hour train ride into Moscow. Reach speeds as high as 160 miles per hour as you travel through the Russian countryside, while enjoying a full breakfast on board.

 

 

Red Square

St. Basil's Cathedral On arrival at the Moscow train station, you will be met by a local English-speaking guide. Once aboard your air-conditioned motor coach, proceed through the bustling city streets to the very heart of the city, Red Square, which provides an excellent view of the world-famous St. Basil's Cathedral, with its multi-colored, onion-shaped domes. This vantage point provides superb photo opportunities of the Kremlin towers and Lenin's Tomb.

Continue on to a tour highlight, the Kremlin. An old fortress in the heart of the city, this symbol of Russia, and the seat of the Russian government, features stately, golden-domed cupolas, museums, churches, and gardens, and includes the official residence of the Russian President.

The Kremlin was built in the 12th century and has since been destroyed and rebuilt several times. Your walking tour of this magnificent structure includes the Armory Chamber, which houses a collection of unique Russian treasures, including royal crowns, jewelry, and priceless Faberge eggs.


Cathedral of the Assumption

Another tour highlight is the Cathedral of the Assumption. Formerly used as a private chapel of the Russian czars, it is the Kremlin's oldest, most important church, and has been the seat of the Russian Orthodox Church since 1326.

Grand Kremlin Palace

Normally off-limits to visitors, we have arranged a special private tour of the Grand Kremlin Palace, which showcases the area where top-level negotiations, as well as the Presidential inauguration and signing of international treaties, take place. The Palace, with its unique complex of buildings, is a masterpiece of Russian architecture.

 

City Tour

Rejoin your motor coach and relax while your guide points out the fascinating features of Moscow's famous landmarks during a panoramic tour climaxing at Sparrow Hill. Your day in Moscow concludes with a sumptuous dinner at the Writers' Club, where President Reagan met with dissident Soviet writers in 1988. Toast your memorable day with a glass of champagne or a shot of vodka, the classic Russian beverage.

Following dinner, your guide willaccompany you on your motor coach transfer to the train station for your return train ride to St. Petersburg.

Attendance is limited; you must pre-register to attend this special excursion: $1,115 per person. This tour includes roundtrip train ticket, transfers, tours, breakfast, coffee break, and early dinner. The order and/or timing of the program, as well as the dinner venue, will be subject to change as needed.

Cancellation Policy (Per Person): If canceled on or after May 6, 100% of total amount will be charged to guest's shipboard account, or if guest cancels the entire cruise, 100% cancellation fee will be charged to guest's credit card on file. Tour includes an approximately 8-hour round-trip high-speed train ride, as well as extensive walking on cobblestones; it is not wheelchair accessible nor recommended for those with walking difficulties. The visit to Red Square is not guaranteed due to ever-changing security restrictions. Dense traffic congestion can be anticipated in Moscow, so order of sites visited can vary.


Berlin Special Tour

English-speaking guides will meet you at the port of Warnemunde and escort you on a drive through the German countryside to the city of Berlin.

City Tour

The Reichstag

Experience the history of Berlin through its architecture, monuments, and memorials. Tour the Baroque city center of Berlin with its grand squares and boulevards built in the 17th and 18th centuries under the Hohenzollern Kings of Prussia. Highlights of this tour include the Reichstag, seat of the German parliament; Potsdamer Platz, Berlin's main square; the new Embassy Quarter; and Alexander Square.



VACLAV KLAUS

Lunch at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski

Following the morning tour, enjoy a relaxing lunch at the luxurious Hotel Adlon Kempinski, the choice of royalty, world leaders, and celebrities for over a century. After lunch, Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, will address the topic: "The Future of the European Union."


WWII, Third Reich, & Cold War Site

Bradenburg Gate After lunch, see the Brandenburg Gate, one of Berlin's most important monuments. And no trip to Berlin would be complete without a photo stop at the famous Checkpoint Charlie, the best known border crossing between East and West during the Cold War. Visit the site of Hitler's Imperial Chancellery, within this compound stood Hitler's bunker. Pass by the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, one of the most impressive and moving monuments to the Holocaust, as well as the collection point at Grosse Hamburger Strasse, from which 56,000 Berlin Jews were deported to Auschwitz. Tour the Scheunenviertel, the historic Jewish Quarter, now bustling with galleries, boutiques, and cafes. Drinks and snacks will be provided for the return journey back to Warnemunde and the Crystal Serenity.
