COMPANY PROFILE
|
Web site: www.minandes.com Minera Andes is a successful mineral exploration company exploring for gold, silver and copper in Argentina. In addition to its own 100 percent owned and operated exploration program, Minera Andes receives income from the San Jose silver/gold mine, a mine constructed on the basis of a significant discovery made by Minera Andes geologists. San Jose, which produced 54,000 ounces of gold and 4.4 million ounces of silver in 2008, is experiencing a production increase in 2009, and is emerging as one of the worlds major primary silver mines. Minera Andes receives the value of 49 percent of San Joses production. More discovery potential exists at the San Jose joint venture. About 40 kilometers of epithermal vein system are currently known, and only about 15 percent of this vein system has been drill-tested. Exploration at San Jose enjoys a 100 percent success rate in drilling geophysical targets. Minera Andes exploration expertise has once again proven itself with the sizeable Los Azules copper discovery in west central Argentina. With an inferred resource containing 922 million tonnes (the equivalent of 11.2 billion pounds of copper), this active prospect represents significant growth potential. Argentina is an underexplored but highly prospective country with excellent mineral discovery potential. Over time Minera Andes has made new discoveries in Santa Cruz province in the southern part of the country. Through systematic, careful exploration, our geologists have made numerous discoveries of vein-hosted gold and silver. More advanced exploration is being conducted on three of these discoveries to advance our corporate goal of growth by discovering great assets.
