Laszlo Birinyi, Jr., is president of Birinyi Associates, Inc., a Greenwich, Connecticut, research and consulting firm. He is also a consultant to and the Global Trading Strategist for Deutsche Bank Securities. His Wall Street career began as a trader and culminated in the development of the trading calendar and eventually a book on the subject, The Equity Desk. In July, 1976, Mr. Birinyi was asked to join Salomon Brothers where he moved more into research and market analysis. While at that firm, he was responsible for Equity Market Analysis and published the firm's weekly commentary, Stock Week, as well as a variety of studies on market topics including volatility, flow of funds, market structure, and perhaps his best-known tool, money flows. In addition, Mr. Birinyi was the architect of the Salomon-Russell International Index. He was made vice president in 1978, and he left Salomon Brothers in 1989 while a director of that firm. Mr. Birinyi is also a columnist for Forbes, as well as panelist for Wall $treet Week With Louis Rukeyser. In 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, and 1997 he was on the year-end review as being one of the outstanding stock-pickers.
