Chips continue to get smaller and show up in more and more products that can deliver more and more services. That sounds like a sure-fire recipe for growth and profits, no? The catch is that the factories to make these ever smaller, and ever-more-complex chips are horribly expensive. Intel figures that that means only companies with $9 billion in annual revenue can afford one of these new factories and that cuts out pretty much everyone in the industry except for ten companies.
