And with the financial markets in New York closed early (1 p.m. New York time) for Christmas and volume on the Standard & Poor’s 500 stocks 35% below the 30-day average, it’s time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

I’ve just finished putting the lights up on our tree at home. Yesterday I tried to beat the rush at Toys R Us (fat chance!) but I did manage to cross off the last items on my list. Times Square was mobbed with out of towners with kids in tow and everyone seemed headed to the big tree in Rockefeller Center. Santa even delivered a few snowflakes.

The site is now dark for the holiday but I’ll be back posting on Wednesday as we all wait in suspense (not really) to see what Congress will do about the fiscal cliff.  (And if you're wondering about the photo with this post, those are physical cliffs in Chile.)
