Along with his numerous books, his directorship for the Young America's Foundation, and his 23-year editorial role at Forecasts & Strategies Mark Skousen now adds Columbia Business School to the venues in which he teaches economics.  He is also an expert at collectibles, art, and numismatics, which is reflected in his 2004 pick.

"My stock pick for 2004: Collectors Universe (CLCT NASDAQ), which grades and sells rare coins and other high-end collectibles. Collectors is a turnaround story, and the stock is starting to move up. Earlier this year it was hit with a $1.38 per share loss but under a new President/CEO Michael Haynes showed a 7 cent a share profit in its most recent quarter (ending Sept 30), with revenues up 36% to $17 million.

"What is Haynes doing differently? He's shedding marginal businesses, like the Lyn Knight currency auctions, and focusing entirely on its primary business of grading and selling high-grade coins and collectibles, which is increasingly profitable. As a result, we expect the new two quarterly reports to show dramatic improvement. I understand that a major mutual fund is accumulating the stock up to $10 a share. You should do the same. The stock has more to go on the upside as  an undervalued play on the hot gold and collectibles market. Buy on weakness. I believe CLCT will rise to $15 in 2004."

Mark Skousen will be participating in Investing for Growth & Income at The World Money Show in Orlando, Florida, February 3, 2004. Tickets are $89.00 through January 22, $109.00 afterwards. Click here for more information or to purchase tickets.
