In the end, the Dow Industrials couldn’t CLOSE above 40,000 yesterday. But the index did try its “Dow 40K” hat on for size intraday. This morning, stocks are flattish along with crude oil and Treasuries. Gold and silver are up a bit, as is the dollar.

Both stocks and bonds surged this morning on cooler-than-expected inflation data, though the rallies are easing back a bit now. The dollar is lower along with crude oil, while gold and silver are flattish.
Stocks were mixed yesterday and they’re mixed again so far today. Crude oil is modestly lower, while gold and silver are modestly higher. Treasuries and the dollar have been volatile in the wake of wholesale inflation data, but were largely unchanged at last check.
