Our latest featured recommendation is one of the largest US-based, publicly traded water utilities, notes Jimmy Mengel, dividend expert and editor of Like Minded People.

Aqua America (WTR) serves nearly 3 million people in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois, Texas, New Jersey, Indiana, and Virginia.

I like the fact that Aqua America is a company that consistently delivers in good times and bad. So those faucets are going to keep flowing, regardless of what happens in the stock market.

People need water. The obvious fact about water is that people absolutely require it for basic survival. While you can go up to three weeks without food, you'd die in a mere three days without water.

This is a water play that really allows you to take full advantage of a dividend-reinvestment program (DRIP). Indeed, I must say that it is one of the best dividend reinvestment plans around.

Not only does it offer free dividend reinvestment on its 2.3% yield, but it also gives you a 5% discount on stock purchased this way.

Meanwhile, the company has paid consecutive quarterly cash dividends for 71 years and has increased the dividend 25 times in the last 24 years.

On April 15 it declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.178 per share, payable on June 1, 2016 to all shareholders of record on May 13, 2016.

You may participate in the plan if you own at least five shares of Aqua America common stock that are registered in your name.

Or you can make a minimum initial investment of $500. After the initial investment, you may invest as little as $50 whenever you'd like.
