About Michael

Michael Richings is president and CEO of Vista Gold Corp., a position he originally retired from in 2000, but returned to after the unexpected death of president and CEO Jock McGregor in May 2004. He is a mining engineer with more than 30 years of experience in exploration, development, and operations in the mining industry. Mr. Richings was appointed as president of Granges in 1995 and supervised the expansion of the Hycroft Mine and the merger with DaCapo Resources in 1996 to form Vista Gold Corp. Previously, he was president of Lac South America in Chile, where he was responsible for the El Indio mine, the largest gold producer in South America at the time; construction of the El Tambo mine, which produced 140,000 ounces per year; along with the development of a number of projects in South America. He holds an ACSM from Camborne School of Mines and an MS from Queens University.
