John Rogers, Jr., is chairman and CEO of Ariel Capital Management, LLC, an institutional money management firm he founded in 1983, and CIO of Ariel Mutual Funds. With over $16 billion in assets under management, the firm manages separate accounts for institutional clients and also serves individual investors and 401(k) plans through its no-load mutual funds. Mr. Rogers specializes in small- and mid-cap US equities and serves as the lead portfolio manager of a mid-cap value fund and the firm's flagship fund. Prior to founding Ariel Capital, he worked for two and a half years at William Blair & Company. Business publications frequently quote Mr. Rogers because of his expertise. He has made guest appearances on television shows including Wall $treet Week With Louis Rukeyser and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Mr. Rogers has also spoken at many academic institutions. In 1995, he was profiled in The Mutual Fund Masters alongside Peter Lynch and Sir John Templeton. In 1994, Mr. Rogers was named by Time magazine as one of its "50 for the Future," a roster of the country's most promising leaders under age 40. In 1988, Sylvia Porter's Personal Finance Magazine named him "Mutual Fund Manager of the Year." He also serves as a corporate board member of many organizations.
