About Sid

Sid Mokhtari is a member of the CIBC Capital Markets Investment Strategy Committee and Asset Allocation Team, where he provides active investment counsel to portfolio managers across CIBC Wood Gundy network and institutional clients. His research focuses on translating cross‑asset market signals into actionable portfolio insights, with an emphasis on trend- and quant-factor persistence, regime identification, and risk‑adjusted positioning.

Mr. Mokhtari’s research spans across equities, fixed income, commodities, and FX, integrating numerical quants and technical analysis, market internals, and large‑scale data series to support top‑down asset allocation and bottom‑up security selection. He is the lead author of A Closer Look, CIBC’s flagship equity research publication that evaluates prevailing market structure and the underlying quant drivers, cross autocorrelation in breadth, momentum, and intermarket dynamics to assess the durability of any ongoing trends and turning points in risk appetite.

He is also the founder of the CIBC TrendSpotting Matrix (TSM) and the Quant Composite Matrix (QCM), two sophisticated proprietary multi‑factor frameworks that systematically score stocks and sectors based on trend strength, quant-factor alpha signals, and relative quad valuations. His matrices underpin two rules‑based portfolios every month — the Canadian Top-10 Best ideas and the CDR-Matrix-Report. Each consists of high‑conviction constituents that are rebalanced monthly using an objective, transparent, and repeatable methodology.

Mr. Mokhtari has also served on the journal review board of the U.S. Society of Market Technicians (MTA) and its Finance Committee as treasurer. He’s a regular top gun institutional sell side analyst awarded by Brendan Wood International survey committee.  He is also a frequent contributor to BNN/Bloomberg and is regularly cited by The Globe and Mail, and other financial publications.
