About Charl

Charl Malan joined Van Eck Global in 2003 as a precious and base metals mining analyst. He is a member of the investment team that manages the Van Eck International Investors Gold Fund, the Van Eck Global Hard Assets Fund, and Van Eck Worldwide Insurance Trusts's Worldwide Hard Assets Fund. Prior to joining Van Eck, Mr. Malan worked at JPMorgan Chase as an equity research sales analyst specializing in South African mining, natural resources, and financial sectors. From 2000 to 2003, he was actively involved in the merger of BHP Billiton, SAB Miller, and the unbundling of Iscor Steel/Kumba Resources, as well as capital raisings and NYSE listing of Harmony Gold, Gold Fields, and Teklorn SA. From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Malan was employed by Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank (Asset Management), South Africa, as an equity research analyst and junior portfolio manager. In addition to developing and applying various fundamental and quantitative models within the natural resources, mining, and consumer sector, he was in charge of establishing an equity research department and ultimately managing Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank (Asset Management), Narribia. Mr. Malan received an MBA and honours in business administration from the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa). He received a BA in arts from the University of Pretoria (South Africa).
