The Married Put (MP), also known as the Protective Put, is a common way that many stock traders become acquainted with options. It provides them with a strategy of insuring the value of their stock holdings. However, with a knowledge of synthetic equations, there may be an alternative and more efficient method to accomplish the same goals. Stan Freifeld will define the MP and demonstrate how to determine if one should implement the MP or its synthetic equivalent in any specific situation.

Stan Freifeld was a market maker on the floor of the American Stock Exchange where he traded options for his own account from 1994-2001. Based on his knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Exchange, and reputation for honesty, integrity, and fairness, he was appointed as a floor official where he served on several important Exchange Committees. After leaving the AMEX, Mr. Freifeld started and still runs a one-on-one mentoring program at McMillan Analysis Corp. Prior to his trading career Stan, a long time MENSA member, became one of the youngest members of the prestigious Society of Actuaries.
