The 4-Year Presidential Election Cycle has proven to be quite different for two-term presidents. In fact, Election Years are the worst. 2015 lagged the historic pattern of big pre-election year gains and 2016 is setting up poorly. Equities are no longer cheap. The Fed is no longer providing excessive liquidity and is on the threshold of raising rates. A strong US dollar, tepid economic conditions, a dangerous geopolitical climate and contentious US election are weighing stocks down.
