About Argus Research Corporation

Argus Research is a leading independent investment research organization providing quality research since 1934. Argus analysts, economists, and portfolio strategists forecast and monitor economic trends, analyze industries, and issue recommendations (buy, hold or sell) on a universe of 500 stocks. Each Argus rating must have a clear, reasonable, and adequate basis. The process starts with the analyst's application of our rigorous six-point system which includes meetings with senior managers. This methodology combined with our independence enables us to develop ideas which are then communicated in a straight forward manner to our clients, making them compete effectively in the marketplace.

Earnings season is now largely completed, and, as usual, it turned out much better than Wall Street expected. S&P 500 earnings from continuing operations fell 3.4% year-over-year from 2Q22 -- much better than the preliminary forecast for a 6%-7% decline. Excluding the Energy sector, earnings actually rose 3% YOY, explains John Eade, president of Argus Research.
Walmart (WMT) and other big retailers are on deck to report earnings this week. News from these companies should demonstrate how consumers are holding up in this period of high interest rates. Meanwhile, our research shows some interesting trends in select sectors, writes John Eade, president of Argus Research.
Our rating on Fiserv (FI) is “Buy” with a target price of $150 (raised from $140). We believe that Fiserv, a financial services firm, benefits from a highly scalable business model. Over the last several years, it has consistently turned single-digit revenue growth into double-digit EPS growth with help from strong margins and share buybacks, notes Stephen Biggar, analyst at Argus Research.
This will be a busy week. The Fed meets and a rate hike is expected; an avalanche of earnings come out, including some big tech names; key inflation data will be released; and the first reading of second-quarter GDP hits the tape, notes John Eade, president of Argus Research.
