I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how crazy this journey in the stock market has been for me. These days, I have three kids and an amazing husband, and work from home in the San Juan Islands on our growing farm while I trade and teach others. Thirteen years ago, I never could have envisioned this life, writes Danielle Shay, editor of Five Star Trader.

People ask me all the time how I’m able to do this. A lot of it comes down to the tools and systems I’ve created that allow me to do so, in addition to the determination I had to make it happen.

I will forever be grateful to my father for suggesting that I get into the stock market. I look back at pictures during the time in which I dedicated myself to trading when Leo was a baby, and I still can’t believe what that simple suggestion turned into.

All I wanted to do was to be able to stay at home with my child and independently provide a safe and healthy life for him. It made sense that I could learn to trade online while he was there. Of course, it was risky, but I’m not generally one to falter in the face of risk when I know there is a potential reward.

I was interested in trading because I was interested in patterns, and I knew I could recognize patterns. I also knew I have always been a dedicated student. It’s those patterns that have brought me success, and my continual honing of those that allow me to do what I do so well. These days, life is beautiful, and I’m always working on updating and improving my strategy.
