The largest indexed ETFs are going to vary in their SpaceX (SPCX) exposure, following the stock’s IPO completed on June 12. Nasdaq and FTSE Russell decided to fast-track the inclusion of mega-cap IPOs in their indices, while S&P DJI opted not to change its methodology, explains Aniket Ullal, VP, ETF Data & Analytics at CFRA Research.
After another year of rapid growth, the US ETF industry is evolving into price-based segments, each with distinct product offerings and market leaders. Overall, net inflows into US-listed ETFs year-to-date have already exceeded 2024’s annual inflow record of $1.2 trillion, highlights Aniket Ullal, VP, ETF Data & Analytics at CFRA Research.
The last two calendar years have been outstanding for US equities. But we have seen some signs of reversal in sentiment around US market outperformance relative to other regions. The iShares Core S&P 500 (IVV) has recently trailed non-US ETFs like the iShares Core MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (IEMG) and iShares Core MSCI EAFE ETF (IEFA), advises Aniket Ullal, VP, ETF Data & Analytics at CFRA Research.
Traditional emerging market (EM) ETFs have a 25%-30% exposure to China, which underperformed in 2023. In 2024, investors may “unbundle” their EM exposure by using EM ex-China ETFs or active ETFs that dynamically calibrate their China exposure. One name to consider is the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ex China ETF (EMXC), notes Aniket Ullal, VP, ETF Data & Analytics at CFRA Research.
